Report: Hornets' Kidd-Gilchrist to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery
Charlotte Hornets swingman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery after suffering yet another torn labrum, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports, citing sources.
Kidd-Gilchrist sustained the injury in the Hornets' win over the Indiana Pacers last Wednesday. Pacers center Lavoy Allen landed on his shoulder while the two dived for a loose ball.
It's the exact same injury Kidd-Gilchrist picked up in preseason, which led to his first surgery. He was expected to miss perhaps the whole season, but returned well ahead of schedule on Jan. 29.
The Hornets have won five of Kidd-Gilchrist's seven games played this season. He put up averages of 12.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 29.3 minutes per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the field.
Charlotte drafted Kidd-Gilchrist second overall in 2012, and signed him to a four-year, $52-million extension last summer. He's blossomed into one of the league's best defenders, and his awkward jump shot was even showing signs of improvement before his injuries.
The Hornets are 22-24 without Kidd-Gilchrist this season.
