Cold conditions were unexpectedly made frigid for John Tortorella as he ran an outdoor practice Friday at Winter Park in Columbus.
The Blue Jackets coach was flattened, and left sprawled on the ice, after what Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch described as a "nasty collision" with winger Rene Bourque.

Bourque apparently hit a rut on the ice before crashing into Tortorella, who was attended to by the medical staff before being helped off the ice.
The Blue Jackets' update read that Tortorella was "banged up pretty good," and that he was still expected to make the trip to Boston. However, the coach has been taken to hospital and as a result likely missed the team's charter.
