Davis dominates with 2nd multi-inning save of postseason

Kansas City Royals closer Wade Davis has fully embraced the multi-inning save.

The former starter tossed two shutout innings in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday against the New York Mets for his second six-out save of the postseason.

While the pressure of extra work has rattled some closers, Davis admits earning extra outs is no big deal to him.

"I don't think it changes much. It's the World Series; you have a lot more adrenaline to wind up and go out there and give everything you've got," Davis said. "A couple more outs really doesn't change anything."

Royals manager Ned Yost had the luxury of rolling with Davis an inning early, as the right-hander had only made one appearance through the first three games of the series.

"He was the most rested guy we had down there today," Yost said. "We knew if we had a lead in the eighth inning, unless it was multiple-run lead, a three- or four- or five-run lead we were going to go to Wade in that situation."

Moved into the closer's role after Greg Holland suffered a season-ending elbow injury in late September, Davis has tossed 9 2/3 shutout innings during the postseason, including a five-out save in the clinching game of ALCS.

Davis, who secured the final six outs in Game 4 of the ALDS, is the first reliever to record at least two six-out saves in the same postseason since Mariano Rivera in 2009.
