Maple Leafs' Nathan Horton failed physical, not on training camp roster

Toronto Maple Leaf property Nathan Horton failed to pass his physical and is not listed on the club's training camp roster, Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press reports.

Horton, who suffers from a degenerative back condition that may prevent him from ever playing again, was acquired in a shocking trade last season that saw David Clarkson land with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Though Toronto must pay out what's left of his $37.1-million contract in real dollars, Horton will clear a major portion of the team's salary cap as long as he remains on long-term injured reserve.

Horton was a member of the Boston Bruins' Stanley Cup-winning team in 2011.
