Avalanche sign Calvin Pickard to a reported 2-way, $850,500 contract

The Colorado Avalanche have resigned goaltender Calvin Pickard, agreeing to a reported one-year, two-way contract worth $850,500 at the NHL level, according to multiple reports.
As a 23-year-old rookie, Pickard authored strong, small-sample-size stats in relief of Semyon Varlamov and Reto Berra last season. He finished 6-7-3, but stopped pucks at a .932 rate - second to just one full-time netminder, Hart Trophy winner Carey Price.
Pickard has the ability to push for the backup role behind Varlamov next year, but Berra stands in his way, playing on a one-way deal for the next two seasons.
