Report: Jets' Sheldon Richardson charged with resisting arrest after alleged road race

New York Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was charged with resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations Thursday, according to Mark Schlinkmann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Richardson was allegedly involved in a road race on July 14 and was clocked at 143 mph, St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar said. The defensive tackle allegedly tried to allude police and sped through a traffic light. Richardson was eventually arrested when he pulled into a driveway.

There was also a strong odor of marijuana and a loaded gun in the car that contained two other men and a 12-year-old child, according to police.

Richardson made headlines earlier this month when he was suspended four games for a substance abuse violation and said recently that he wouldn't fail another test because he's "not a dope fiend."

This latest news won't make the Jets, who were apparently in the dark about the issue, very happy.

With Richardson missing the first four games, rookie Leonard Williams figures to be thrust into a starting role for Week 1.
