Trout's MRI reveals no structural damage on wrist; listed as day-to-day

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout could return to the lineup as early as Wednesday after an MRI showed no structural damage in his sore left wrist.

Trout suffered the injury Sunday while attempting a diving catch in the Angels' finale against the Texas Rangers. The reigning AL MVP remained in the game following the play, and went on to hit a grand slam in the multi-homer effort.

"The MRI was probably the best it could be," Trout told reporters after sitting out Tuesday's 10-5 loss. "I have to take the positive from that. I'm just hoping to come (Wednesday), and hopefully it feels all right. Obviously, I don't want to make it worse."

The Angels added outfield depth Tuesday by trading for veterans David DeJesus and David Murphy in separate deals with Tampa Bay and Cleveland. Interim general manager Bill Stoneman suggested that the acquisitions could allow Trout more time rest his bothersome wrist.

"I'm not sure how much time Trout is going to need," Stoneman said. "He's got a little strain. He's day-to-day, so hopefully he won't miss a whole lot of time, but if he happens to, maybe one of these guys could be the one that fills in for him."

It's been another exceptionally productive season for Trout, who's batting .315/.405/.632 with a major league-leading 31 home runs and 6.3 wins above replacement. The 23-year-old center fielder won his second consecutive All-Star MVP award earlier this month.
