Spurs, Tim Duncan finalize 2-year deal worth more than $10-million

The San Antonio Spurs are reloading in a big way this summer. But first things first: They need to take care of Tim Duncan.

Duncan and the Spurs have finalized a new contract that will reportedly pay the 39-year-old more than $10.8 million over the next two years, with a player option for 2016-17, reports TNT's David Aldridge.

It's a massive discount for Duncan, who nabbed All-NBA Third Team honors last season. Despite his advanced age, Duncan averaged 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and three assists, with a PER of 22.6, while ranking as one of the league's best defenders.

Incredibly, Duncan revved up his averages to 17.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 blocks in the postseason against Los Angeles Cippers center DeAndre Jordan. The 39-year-old Duncan defied age, calling bank and playing shutdown defense as he always does.

Of course, taking a discount is part and parcel of the Spurs experience and it's all for a good cause. The Spurs reached an agreement to sign LaMarcus Aldridge, adding a superstar to a 55-win core.

The only change for Duncan is that he'll have to play more minutes at center to accommodate Aldridge, especially with Tiago Splitter having been traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
