Quebecor to apply for expansion franchise in Quebec City
The Quebec Nordiques may take the ice once again.
Quebecor is set to apply for an NHL expansion franchise with the intent to bring a team back to Quebec City following league commissioner Gary Bettman's announcement that the league would start accepting formal applications in July.
"Quebecor plans to participate in the process announced by the NHL and submit his candidacy in order to bring the Nordiques back to Quebec City," the company said in a statement Wednesday.
The company manages the Videotron Centre, an arena that's currently under construction which would house a potential team.
"The state-of-the-art facility in Quebec City, which seats 18,259 for hockey, is set to officially open in September 2015. It was designed to meet NHL standards," the statement continued.
The Nordiques were relocated to Colorado in 1995 and became the Avalanche.
