Browns GM Farmer on trading up for Mariota: 'Sure, why not?'

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns continue to drop not-so-subtle hints they plan to be major players in talks to trade up and draft Marcus Mariota.

Earlier this week, when asked about the possibility of his team trading its two first-round picks - No. 12 and No. 19 - to move up for the Oregon star, head coach Mike Pettine said, "Sure, why not?"

General manager Ray Farmer gave the exact same answer to reporters when asked about it Thursday.

The Browns continue to insist their 2014 first-round pick Johnny Manziel remains in their plans, but it's clear they haven't ruled out selecting a quarterback in the first round for a third time in four seasons.

Then again, maybe the Browns want teams around the NFL to believe they covet Mariota. Draft season is full of smokescreens, and two high-ranking members of the Browns' front office giving the same answer to a question is a little suspicious.
