Browns coach Pettine on Johnny Manziel: 'He's very much in our plans'

Contrary to reports, the Cleveland Browns haven't closed the book on Johnny Manziel.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine scoffed at the idea Tuesday when asked about a recent report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the team has 90 percent moved on from the second-year quarterback.

"I filed that one in the ridiculous category," Pettine said, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He's very much in our plans.''

Pettine declined to get into specifics about the Browns' quarterback depth chart, but didn't rule out the possibility of trading up in the draft for Marcus Mariota.

Pettine also reiterated that Cleveland drafted Manziel for a reason, saying: "We're looking forward to getting him out there.''

Manziel has yet to speak publicly since being released from rehab, but was present for the start of the Browns' offseason program Monday. Teammate Joe Haden said Manziel spent about three extra hours at the facility.

"I can tell there's something different with him," Haden said.
