Report: Vikings won't trade Adrian Peterson after the draft

If the Minnesota Vikings plan to trade Adrian Peterson, it may come in the next two weeks.

A source told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the Vikings won't trade Peterson before the 2015 season if there are no takers before or during the NFL Draft. 

The source added that the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in the mix to acquire Peterson, in addition to the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. Contrary to recent reports, the source believes the Oakland Raiders are not a possible destination for the running back. 

Peterson was not present for the start of the team's voluntary offseason workout program Monday, according to ESPN's Ben Goessling.

He typically works out in Houston before joining the rest of the team later in the spring, though he did attend the voluntary veteran minicamp during head coach Mike Zimmer's first season with the Vikings.

One source told Goessling that the Vikings did not expect Peterson to show up for this year's voluntary workouts. Tomasson also reports that Peterson's absence has nothing to do with him being disgruntled.

If Peterson ends up sitting out the Vikings' mandatory minicamp, the team could fine him up to $72,920 and withhold his offseason bonus, Goessling reports. 

The NFL reinstated Peterson on Friday, clearing the way for him to participate in all offseason activities. The Vikings released a statement shortly after, saying they look forward to Peterson rejoining the team, but it's unclear whether he intends to.

Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, said during the NFL owners meetings in March that he didn't think it was in his client's best interest to play in Minnesota.
