Report: Raiders among teams interested in acquiring Adrian Peterson

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

With Adrian Peterson now officially reinstated and his status with the Minnesota Vikings still very much up in the air, potential destinations elsewhere around the league are beginning to take shape.

Among the several teams set to get involved should Peterson become available, the Oakland Raiders have interest in acquiring the three-time All-Pro, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport adds that the Raiders are currently on the outskirts of the pursuit, only having discussed the possibility internally.

Whether or not the early interest amounts to any sort of meaningful negotiation remains to be seen, but Peterson would be an interesting trade target for a team still desperately in need of talent upgrades at a number of key positions.

Of course, taking on Peterson's contract wouldn't be much of an issue with Oakland still having plenty of salary cap space at its disposal, and adding such star power would certainly make for an intriguing possibility.

What may cause the Raiders to be less inclined to work out a deal, however, will be taking into consideration the draft-pick compensation the Vikings are certain to demand in exchange for their all-time leading rusher.

For a Raiders team that remains committed to building through the draft, and one that is still far more than a single player away from becoming a true contender, giving up anything more than a middle- or late-round selection would come as quite a surprise.

Then again, the Raiders have long been one of the most unpredictable teams in the sport, so there could conceivably be something to their reported interest.

Either way, with the draft fast approaching, there should be some clarity brought to Peterson's situation at some point soon.

Joining the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals, as well as several other clubs still likely to emerge, the Raiders now appear to be a team to watch in what should be a fascinating process.
