Cubs' Soler hits 2 HRs, makes incredible outfield assist, scores winning run

With all the talk about Kris Bryant being buried in the minor leagues, another one of the Chicago Cubs highly touted prospects was making noise on Monday.

Twenty-three-year-old Jorge Soler blasted a pair of home runs off Cincinnati Reds pitching, in addition to making a cross-field throw to nail a runner at third base and eventually scored the winning run in a performance that rivaled what Mookie Betts did for the Boston Red Sox on the same day.

Soler's first home run of the game came in the first inning off right-hander Mike Leake.

Cubs starter Jon Lester missed an attempted pick-off at first base an inning later that found its way to right field. Soler corralled the ball and threw a laser to third base to nail Zack Cozart and bail out his pitcher.

"The throw he made to third base was ridiculous," manager Joe Maddon told Jesse Rogers of ESPN

Soler wasn't finished there. Trailing by two in the bottom of the eighth, he drove a two-run shot into the construction site that was once the Wrigley Field bleachers to tie the game at six.

Soler went on to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th off a Arismendy Alcantara single as the Cubs edged the Reds 7-6.
