Laurence Gibson was one of the top performers at the combine Friday and posted the best vertical jump out of any lineman. The Virginia Tech offensive tackle also had the best broad jump and showed off excellent athleticism for an offensive lineman. Gibson was viewed as an off-the-radar prospect, but will likely warrant some more game-tape viewings after a standout day at the combine.

T.J. Clemmings continued to show why some league personnel view him as a top-15 pick, displaying excellent lower-body strength Friday.

Jake Fisher also had an outstanding performance at the combine Friday. Fisher ran a 5.01 40-yard dash, the second-best time out of any offensive lineman and continued to display his arsenal of skills with a 32.5" vertical jump, the second-best jump of the day.

Other Notable Performances

  • D.J. Humphries (OT), Florida - 31"
  • Andrus Peat (OT), Stanford - 31"
  • Terry Poole (G), San Diego State - 31"
  • Cameron Erving (C), Florida State - 30.5"
  • Ali Marpet (C), Hobart & William Smith - 30.5"

Andrus Peat was considered by some to be a first-round talent and continued to show his explosiveness Friday with a 31" inch jump. A 6-foot-7, 313-pound player should not be able to jump as high as Peat and teams in need of a left tackle will be circling his name on their draft board.

Terry Poole and Cameron Erving put together outstanding performances at the combine, excelling in both the broad and vertical jumps. The former was a relatively unheralded prospect, but outperformed many players from elite programs.

Ali Marpet may have been the story of the day. The lone Division III prospect at the combine, Marpet excelled in every drill that he performed in and posted the best 40-yard dash time (4.98) of any offensive lineman. After an outstanding performance, Marpet may become the poster boy for unheralded prospects entering the four-day conference.
