Hobart & William Smith's Ali Marpet, the only Division III prospect at the combine, could turn out to be one of the event's best stories. After a strong showing in the bench press, Marpet turned in the best time of any offensive lineman in the 40-yard dash. He was the only lineman to crack the five-second mark.

Oregon product Jake Fisher also ran a very quick time and may have improved his draft stock (though scouts don't put much weight into 40 times for linemen, as linemen very rarely run 40 yards in a straight line during games). Fisher looked highly athletic.

Iowa's Brandon Scherff must have been pleased with his time, but his day quickly changed tone as he was forced from the combine with a hamstring injury.

Other Notable Performances

  • La'el Collins (OT), LSU - 5.12 sec.
  • D.J. Humphries (OT), Florida - 5.12 sec.
  • T.J. Clemmings (OT), Pittsburgh - 5.14 sec.
  • Andrus Peat (OT), Stanford - 5.18 sec.
  • Ereck Flowers (OT), Miami - 5.31 sec.

La'el Collins, D.J. Humphries and Andrus Peat all proved they have the athleticism to justify their status as top prospects on the offensive line.

Ereck Flowers, who some analysts have as a likely first-round pick, ran a somewhat disappointing 5.31.
