Report: Kings in the market for defensemen; looking at Methot, Sekera

The Los Angeles Kings are looking to upgrade their blue-line before the NHL trade deadline, and reportedly have a pair of pending unrestricted free agents in mind.

"The (Kings) continue to look for a defenseman," TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on Tuesday. "They know Slava Voynov isn't going to be back in the picture anytime soon, if at all."

"Marc Methot (of the Ottawa Senators) and Andrej Sekera of the Carolina Hurricanes ... are two of the defensemen that they are looking at among others," McKenzie continued.

Methot has been in and out of the Senators lineup with injury this season, and his inability to stay healthy has complicated contract negotiations with the club. The Senators are supposedly open to dealing Methot, who is reportedly looking for Brooks Orpik-type money this summer, if the two sides can't agree to a deal.

As for Sekera, he's a steady two-way defenseman, and his puck-moving abilities would seem to fit in nicely with the Kings' style of play. The issue with chasing Sekera is that the Kings aren't the only team interested in acquiring him, and the Hurricanes are believed to be trying to work out a contract extension.
