It's becoming increasingly clear why restricted free-agent center Greg Monroe hasn't signed an offer to play anywhere next season.

The Detroit Pistons own the right to match any tender thrown Monroe's way, but the big man hasn't signed anything to date; he is reportedly mulling accepting his $5.5 million qualifying offer which would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

Qualifying offers aren't overly attractive for young stars in Monroe's position, as they include a heavy dose of risk. Poor health or a performance dip next season would adversely affect his ability to fetch a handsome sum on the open market.

Monroe's reluctance to sign now is likely spurred by two factors. His lack of fit in Detroit's clustered frontcourt featuring Andre Drummond and Josh Smith is an issue, resulting in a cramped paint within which all three prefer to operate.

Monroe has also reportedly received two max offers this offseason, which he did not sign because sign-and-trade deals were not feasible and he was concerned about the Pistons matching.

The 24-year-old pivot averaged 15.2 points, 9.3 pounds and 2.1 assists per game last season. Monroe profiles as one of the league's best low-block threats, and is a good passer out of the high post.
