Report: Cubs' World Series rings contain 108 diamonds

The curse is dead, and the Chicago Cubs' World Series rings will make sure you know it.

The Cubs are set to receive their 2016 championship rings when they return to Wrigley Field this week, and it appears that no expense has been spared to make these pieces of jewelry memorable and historic. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, each of the rings handed out will contain at least 108 diamonds to commemorate the franchise's now-erased 108-year title drought.

"There's a lot of our history in (the rings)," outfielder Jason Heyward told Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. "It's an awesome thing."

When the Cubs players receive their rings, it will be a historic first for the franchise. Rings were not awarded to the World Series-winning Cubs in 1908, as the tradition wasn't established until the 1920s. According to the website WorldSeriesRings.net, players on the 1908 Cubs received a commemorative pin after defeating the Detroit Tigers in five games, while their opponents from Detroit were given pocket watches in recognition of their 1908 American League championship.

The Cubs will receive their World Series rings in a ceremony before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the 2016 World Series banner will be raised above Wrigley before their home opener on Monday.
