Report: Larkin gets welterweight title shot vs. Lima in Bellator debut in June

Lorenz Larkin isn't wasting any time in his new promotion.

"The Monsoon" recently signed with Bellator MMA after a 10-fight run with the UFC, and his debut will be June 24 against welterweight champion Douglas Lima at Madison Square Garden, according to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.

Larkin broke out as a contender at 170 pounds with a five fight stretch that saw him go 4-1 including a first-round TKO of top-10 ranked Neil Magny in what would be Larkin's last Octagon appearance. The 30-year-old Californian sports an 18-5 professional record with one no-contest.

Lima recently regained the Bellator welterweight title in a rematch with Andrey Koreskhov, the man who took it from him in the first place. That fight ended in a third-round KO for Lima, his sixth in his last eight fights.

A Bellator competitor since September 2011, Lima has held championship gold on two occasions but is yet to put together a successful defense.

The Larkin-Lima matchup will be the second title fight added to Bellator: NYC, - the promotion's second-ever pay-per-view - after a bout between lightweight champion Michael Chandler and Brent Primus was reportedly booked Thursday.

Chael Sonnen will face middleweight rival Wanderlei Silva in the main event, with heavyweight great Fedor Emelianenko expected to fight Matt Mitrione in the co-headliner.

It should be noted that Bellator: NYC will follow Bellator 180, which is scheduled to air on Spike TV the same day, so there is a chance Larkin and Lima will appear on the free TV portion of the evening instead.
