Revis cleared of all charges in assault case

The judge in Darrelle Revis' assault case dismissed the free-agent cornerback's charges on Wednesday.

Revis was facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and terroristic threats after his alleged involvement in a fight in his native Pittsburgh last month. The former New York Jets defender was in town to visit friends and family.

According to a police statement, he was approached by a 22-year-old who began filming the cornerback. Revis took the male's phone, tried to delete the video of himself, and then discarded the phone into the street. Another 21-year-old male tried to retrieve the phone when another skirmish occurred. Both the 21-year-old and the 22-year-old alleged Revis punched them, knocking them both out.

The cell phone video retrieved by the police confirmed Revis was involved, but a voice could be heard that the cornerback's lawyers denied was his client's.

At the hearing, Revis' childhood friend, Rashawn Bolton, claimed he pulled the young men off Revis and punched them after they were attacking Revis, according to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala.

"If you was my friend and you said you was getting jumped, I'd help you," Bolton told the district attorney, according to Kinkhabwala.

Bolton also claimed that it was his voice that could be heard on the video.

While some might assume Bolton was taking the fall for his famous friend, his attorney said there was "unequivocally" no financial incentive for Bolton to take the guilt, and reiterated it wasn't Revis who threw the punches.

Quickly after having his charges dismissed, Revis was back to talking football, saying he wants to keep playing, and would be open to moving to safety. He's hoping the incident won't leave a black mark on his legacy.

"What happened is in the past now and all I can do is move forward," he said.
