Remaining team needs: AL East, NL East

Nick Turchiaro / Reuters

The beasts of the East have struck once again as three of baseball's biggest offseason moves came from both sides of the division.

The New York Mets re-signing Yoenis Cespedes to a four-year, $110-million deal was just the start, as the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals followed suit with blockbuster trades involving Chris Sale and Adam Eaton, respectively.

Despite significant improvements made by a few teams, some - including the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves - still have big holes to fill. Here are each team's needs in both divisions:

AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST

Baltimore Orioles

Team needs: Outfielder, designated hitter, starting pitcher

Potential targets: Mike Napoli, Angel Pagan, Tyson Ross, Curtis Granderson (trade with Mets)

The Orioles have taken their usual approach to free agency by being patient and waiting out a thin market. The clock is starting to tick as the Orioles still have a lot of holes to fill if they want to be competitive once again in 2017. The most pressing need is finding an outfielder to replace Mark Trumbo. The Orioles were linked to veteran Rajai Davis before he signed in Oakland. In addition, the team has kicked tires on Mike Napoli and previously held dialogue with the New York Mets about Curtis Granderson.

Boston Red Sox

Team needs: Depth at third base

Potential targets: Trevor Plouffe, Luis Valbuena

The Red Sox have had one of the best offseasons of any team in the majors. The club's trade for Sale - as well as signing a defensively capable first baseman in Mitch Moreland and acquiring reliever Tyler Thornburg - has the team sitting pretty. With a deep roster, the team could use help at third in case Pablo Sandoval doesn't work out. The Red Sox have shown interest in Trevor Plouffe, who would fill that role perfectly.

New York Yankees

Team needs: Starting pitcher

Potential targets: Jason Hammel, Jose Quintana (trade with White Sox)

Heading into 2017, the youth movement will continue for the New York Yankees - a team on the rise thanks to steady development and the return of Aroldis Chapman. One need for the Yankees is finding a quality starter to back Masahiro Tanaka, and the team could use its deep prospect pool to land Jose Quintana from the rebuilding Chicago White Sox. If the asking price remains steep, the Yankees could add a reliable veteran like Jason Hammel on a cheap deal.

Tampa Bay Rays

Team needs: Corner outfielder, No. 1 catcher

Potential targets: Jose Bautista, Kurt Suzuki

The Tampa Bay Rays have fielded calls on a ton of players this offseason but if they keep their roster in tact, could be an underdog heading into 2017. The low budget Rays should consider a smaller deal to bring in slugger Jose Bautista, who could be a fit in Tampa Bay after years in Toronto. The club also lacks a starting catcher despite adding Wilson Ramos, who will miss the start of 2017 rehabbing from knee surgery. One possibility as a fill-in option could be Kurt Suzuki - a veteran catcher that has averaged 121 games behind the plate for his career.

Toronto Blue Jays

Team needs: Corner outfielder, Left-handed reliever, first baseman

Potential targets: Michael Saunders, Brandon Moss, Bautista, Jerry Blevins, Neftali Feliz

After leading the league in attendance and making the postseason for the second straight year, the Blue Jays' offseason has been seriously underwhelming thus far. The team still lacks an impact left-handed reliever and doesn't have a true starter in either corner outfield spot. With limited trade assets, the Blue Jays could consider a return with Michael Saunders or Bautista. On the reliever front, luckily for them, a handful of quality arms are still available in Jerry Blevins, Boone Logan, Travis Wood, and Neftali Feliz, to name a few.

NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST

Atlanta Braves

Team needs: No. 1 catcher

Potential targets: Matt Wieters, Blake Swihart (trade with Red Sox)

The Atlanta Braves did an admirable job of getting off to a hot start in free agency, signing starters R.A. Dickey, Bartolo Colon, and trading for Jaime Garcia. The team's biggest need is a starting catcher, which makes Matt Wieters the most logical fit. One surprise option could be a trade with the Red Sox for Blake Swihart, who has generated interest from at least one NL team as of late.

Miami Marlins

Team needs: Starting pitcher, first baseman

Potential targets: Tyson Ross, Doug Fister, Adam Lind

The Miami Marlins' focus has been on its bullpen so far, but the club needs some help in the starting rotation. Adding Edinson Volquez helps, but since the Marlins seem poised to compete next season, a starting pitcher or two should be next on the list. Tyson Ross would fit in well, as would Doug Fister - two starters with experience in the NL.

New York Mets

Team needs: Depth starter, reliever

Potential targets: C.J. Wilson, Brad Brach (trade with Orioles), Alex Colome (trade with Rays)

The Mets have made it clear they want to trade either Jay Bruce or Granderson, which makes them ideal fits for a number of relievers. Brad Brach from Baltimore would slot in nicely, as would Alex Colome from the Rays. Both relievers would be considered for the closer's role, as Jeurys Familia could face a suspension to start the season.

Philadelphia Phillies

Team needs: Corner outfielder, reliever

Potential targets: J.D. Martinez (trade with Tigers), Blevins, Wood

The rebuilding Philadelphia Phillies are moving in the right direction and have been fairly busy this offseason, adding a bevy of veterans. With room for improvement in the outfield, a trade with the Detroit Tigers for J.D. Martinez makes a ton of sense. The Phillies also lack a left-handed reliever in the bullpen, so an add there seems plausible.

Washington Nationals

Team needs: Closer

Potential targets: Greg Holland, David Robertson (trade with White Sox), Sergio Romo

The Washington Nationals have had an unsettled offseason thus far, but are still contenders heading into 2017. Every area is set except for the bullpen, as the team desperately needs a closer after missing out on Kenley Jansen, Mark Melancon, and Chapman. Greg Holland seems like the best fit, but a trade is also possible. The Nats could circle back to the White Sox and acquire David Robertson or look into Sergio Romo, whose market has been slow to develop.
