Report: Asking price for Quintana is exorbitantly high

Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has done a remarkable job replenishing his team's prospect pool in separate trades involving Chris Sale and Adam Eaton, and seems poised to ensure that continues.

With teams showing interest in White Sox starter Jose Quintana - specifically the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves - the asking price for the 27-year-old is reportedly exorbitantly high, according to Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle, citing sources.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow confirmed as such, admitting the team is willing to make moves, but doesn't want to severely cripple its future.

"We're prepared to trade players to improve our club right now," Luhnow said. "We're just not prepared to trade away players that are core to our production in 2017, and those are sometimes the players that are required to get these deals done."

Additionally, Braves general manager John Coppolella maintained that his team pursued Sale and has interest in Quintana - but isn't comfortable with the asking price.

"It comes down to needs and wants," Coppolella told Dan O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"We don’t have needs in starting pitching. Do we want a No. 1 starter, is Chris Sale a No. 1 starter? Yes. Do we want Jose Quintana? I don’t think Jose Quintana is Chris Sale. Is he an extra year of control (under contract four more years instead of Sale’s three)? Yes. Who’s to say one of our young kids can’t turn into Jose Quintana? Or Chris Sale."

Quintana has been one of baseball's most durable arms, starting over 30 games in each of the past four seasons and throwing 814 innings during that time. With that has come success, as Quintana has posted a 3.33 FIP and a 1.23 WHIP throughout his career - both above league average.
