Report: Nets sign Motiejunas to 4-year, $37M offer sheet

The Brooklyn Nets are hoping the third time will be a charm when it comes to getting an offer sheet to stick this season.

The Nets, whose offers to Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson were matched by the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat in the offseason, have signed Houston Rockets restricted free-agent big man Donatas Motiejunas to a four-year, $37-million sheet, ESPN's Marc J. Spears reports. The Rockets will have three days to decide whether or not to match.

Only the first two years of the contract are guaranteed, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. In their ongoing negotiations with Motiejunas, the Rockets reportedly held firm to a desire to guarantee just one season, at approximately $7 million.

The offer sheet also includes $1 million in annual bonuses considered "likely," and $500,000 in "unlikely" bonuses, sources told Wojnarowski.

The reason for the Rockets' apprehension - and for the Nets guaranteeing just half the deal - is Motiejunas' troublesome back, which required surgery, forced him to miss 45 games, and nixed the trade that was supposed to send him to Detroit last season. The Nets did say they felt "comfortable" with the 26-year-old's physical condition after having him evaluated by team doctors early this week.

In four seasons with the Rockets, Motiejunas averaged 7.8 points and four rebounds, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from 3-point range.
