Ortiz tearfully salutes Fenway crowd after final MLB game
It's hard to believe, but David Ortiz will never play in a MLB game again.
After the Cleveland Indians swept the Boston Red Sox in three games in the American League Division Series, the curtain was brought down on Boston's impressive season, but, most importantly, Ortiz's storied playing career.
Following Boston's 4-3 loss Monday night, Ortiz - uncharacteristically in tears - returned to the field at Fenway Park to salute the booming crowd at the stadium who chanted the slugger's name even as the Indians celebrated their win.
"When I walked to the mound, I realized that it was over," Ortiz told reporters. "It was pretty much probably the last time as a player walking in front of a crowd. And the emotion came back out again."
Thanks, Papi.
