Report: Embiid asks PA announcer to call him 'The Process'

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Joel Embiid hasn't kept secret his fondness for former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie's "process." On Friday, he added "The Process" as his middle name on Instagram.

Taking it a step even further, he asked longtime Sixers public address announcer Matt Cord to use it as his nickname during player introductions, according to the Philadelphia Daily News' John Smallwood.

For whatever reason, Cord did not introduce Embiid that way in his Wells Fargo Arena debut in Thursday's 125-119 preseason loss to the Washington Wizards. The 11,000 fans in attendance saw Embiid score five points, grab three rebounds, and record one block in 12 minutes of action - his current time restriction set by coach Brett Brown.

The Wizards' contest and their exhibition win over the Boston Celtics two days earlier were Embiid's first taste of NBA game action, after sitting out his first two seasons with foot injuries.

Should he actually go with the WWE-style nickname introduction - assuming of course, the Sixers allow it - it could add a dimension to Embiid's legend that would make his love of Shirley Temples redundant.

Basketball-Reference has already stepped up.
