Cerrone prematurely announces fight with Lawler at UFC 205

Donald Cerrone may have jumped the gun in announcing a potential meeting with Robbie Lawler at UFC 205.

On Wednesday, UFC president Dana White reportedly told 92.3 "The Fan" radio host Anthony Lima the paperwork for the bout had been finalized. MMAjunkie's Steven Marrocco also reported the rumor, but most importantly, Cerrone announced the bout on his Instagram account - only to delete the post immediately afterwards.

White is spending the week in Cleveland, home to Saturday's UFC 203.

After recently volunteering his services on Twitter, the UFC seems to have taken Cerrone up on his offer. "Cowboy," who's gone a perfect 3-0 since moving up to 170 pounds, last finished Rick Story by second-round TKO at UFC 202. Lawler marks the first bout of his newly signed eight-fight deal.

"Ruthless," on the other hand, is looking to rebound from losing the welterweight title to Tyron Woodley by first-round knockout at UFC 201 in July. He gets a potential Fight of the Year partner in the ever-lethal Cerrone.

UFC 205 is scheduled for Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden. The event will be the promotion's first in New York City.
