Votto embarrasses interfering Reds fan, apologizes with signed ball
Joey Votto has a well-earned reputation for trolling fans, and the cheeky 32-year-old isn't known for his tact when interacting with them, either, so it was no surprise to see him make his frustrations known Tuesday when one Cincinnati Reds fan interfered with him as he tried to field a pop-up at Great American Ball Park.
Votto's testy relationship with front-row fans has been well documented, by the way. Last week, the four-time All-Star reportedly offered a curt response when a young fan in the primo seats asked him for his batting gloves.
"You're sitting in the front row, you're elite," Votto said, according to Reds fan Melanie Nichols. "This isn't a 'Make-A-Wish' situation."
Votto gonna Votto.
UPDATE: Votto, recognizing the error of his ways, signed a ball for the fan he had embarrassed, including a message that reads: "Thanks for being so understanding when I acted out of character."
This is awesome. Joey Votto signs a ball with an apology for a fan who he interacted with on a foul ball. #MLBonFS1 pic.twitter.com/h7glbaTRfg
