Report: Alabama not letting Maurice Smith transfer

Alabama has been unwilling to grant senior defensive back Maurice Smith his release for the purpose of transferring, Matt Zenitz of AL.com reports, citing sources.
Smith reportedly asked for his release a month ago, and has supposedly made several attempts to obtain it since. Smith is now said to be going through an appeal process in his attempt to receive the walking papers.
Smith was set to compete for playing time as the Crimson Tide's first-team nickle corner before asking out of the program. He finished last season with 15 tackles and a sack, and was a standout contributor on special teams.
