Ronaldo hails Portugal's fight in 'crazy' draw against Hungary

Portugal record-breaker Cristiano Ronaldo hailed his team's fighting ability against Hungary in a "crazy" 3-3 draw that saw the Selecao advance to the knockout stage of Euro 2016.

Portugal fought back to restore a level scoreline three separate times against Hungary, with Ronaldo scoring a pair of goals in the second half to secure a single point in this Group F encounter.

His first goal in the 50th minute of play also inscribed his name in European Championship history as the 1st player to score in four separate iterations of the tournament.

Ronaldo also surpassed Alan Shearer for second in all-time scorers in the competition, and now leads all players in appearances made, too.

"Records? Like I always say, it happens in a natural way, they are two more beautiful records and I am happy, but the priority was to advance," Ronaldo told UEFA after the match, as quoted by ESPN FC.

"We weren't able to win but the objective was obtained. Obviously we wanted a victory and didn't get it, but the team played well. It was a crazy game, it was also very hot, three times we were out of the Euro and we managed to advance."

Portugal qualified for the Round of 16 having drawn all three of its Group F matches and is now set to face off against Croatia on a significantly easier side of the bracket.

Should Portugal defeat Croatia, Ronaldo and co. would face either Switzerland or Poland in the quarter-finals, and avoid the likes of Germany, Spain, Italy, France and England until the tournament final.

But Ronaldo says Croatia, who defeated Spain on Tuesday, presents just as challenging a test for his side, still without a win in Euro 2016.

"Against Croatia, it will be a 50-50 game, whoever plays better will get to advance to the next phase," Ronaldo said. "Not any team can beat Spain. We know that we have our weapons, we have our quality and let's play eye-to-eye."
