Roman Reigns suspended 30 days for wellness policy violation

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns has been suspended for 30 days by World Wrestling Entertainment for a wellness policy violation, the company announced on Tuesday.

Reigns took to Twitter shortly after the announcement to apologize to his supporters:

The wellness policy covers everything from physicals to substance abuse, so it's unclear how exactly Reigns failed his testing.

A first offense leads to a 30-day suspension, with a second jumping to 60 days. A third leads to immediate termination, with the talent being unable to get rehired for a period of one year.

Reigns' suspension will end on July 21, with WWE's Battleground pay-per-view taking place three days later on July 24 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

He's currently scheduled to challenge former Shield allies Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, although it's likely the company will change course since he'll be unable to appear on weekly programming prior to the title bout.

Reigns lost the belt to Rollins at Money in the Bank on Sunday, with Ambrose cashing in his contract for an immediate title match to become champion himself shortly thereafter.
