Daily Fantasy Dose: Look For the A's to Flex Their Muscles Against a Fallen Angel

Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Sunday's 15-game slate:

Stacks of the Day

3-player stack: Vogt, Danny Valencia, Marcus Semien
5-player stack: Vogt, Valencia, Semien, Davis, Burns

  • Baltimore Orioles (vs. Toronto Blue Jays): Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman has pitched a couple gems, but they've been sandwiched by some big losses. Pitching to contact has exacerbated opposing hitters' successes. Some is bad luck and some isn't. Roster the big bats like 1B Chris Davis, OF Adam Jones and OF Mark Trumbo against him.

3-player stack: Davis, Jones, Trumbo
5-player stack: Davis, Jones, Trumbo, Jonathan Schoop, Matt Wieters

  • Detroit Tigers (at Kansas City Royals): While the Diamondbacks vs. Phillies SP Zach Eflin is cushier, it will also be much more expensive. Besides, Royals SP Chris Young has struggled mightily with a 3.57 HR/9. While he's predominantly weak against lefties, the Tigers' potent lineup can overcome the splits, though it may make them lesser owned.

3-player stack: Victor Martinez, Miguel Cabrera, Justin Upton
5-player stack: Cabrera, Steven Moya, Nick Castellanos, Upton, Mike Aviles

Bargain Plays

  • C Evan Gattis, Astros (vs. Reds): A horrendous slump ended with a bang when Gattis drilled a two-run home run on Saturday. His DFS salary, while it hasn't evaporated, has certainly dropped. Reds SP Brandon Finnegan has allowed all 10 of his long balls to right-handed batters. Ride the Gattis wave.
  • 2B/3B Matt Reynolds, Mets (vs. Braves): If Reynolds gets the start, which could happen if the Mets decide to ease Neil Walker back into the lineup, he's a bargain basement option. In his last start, he went 3-for-5 with two doubles. He doesn't even have to equal that to return value, but that is close to his ceiling.
  • 3B Wilmer Flores, Mets (vs. Braves): Flores completes a mini-Mets stack with Reynolds, but you should only consider rostering one of them. Flores has stronger upside and has two home runs over his last 10 games. He's the safer bet and is will start on a regular basis. Braves SP Julio Teheran has been on a nice roll, though, so the risk is real.

Contrarian Options

  • SP Taijuan Walker, Mariners (at Red Sox): I wouldn't put too much stock in Walker playing at Fenway, but you can be sure he won't be rostered because of his matchup combined with the foot ailment he's been dealing with. His low salary will open up a GPP roster and his upside includes double-digit Ks.
  • OF Starling Marte, Pirates (at Cubs): He's not cheap and he's hurt. The one sign of hope is that he did enter Saturday's game as a pinch-runner, signalling a possible Sunday return. Allocating the resources necessary to roster him will cause most to shy away, but if he'll start if he's healthy enough. A .367 batting average over his last 10 means he's worth a look.
  • 3B Kyle Seager, Mariners (at Red Sox): Seager's batting average has hit a bit of a snag, going only 7-for-36 over his last 10 games. The good news is three of those hits were home runs. His struggles against LHPs is noted, especially with David Price on the hill, but he does have five HRs off southpaws this season.
