Watch: Mazara just misses saving Lewis' no-hitter

Colby Lewis was so close to accomplishing greatness on many different fronts when he took the hill Thursday against the Oakland Athletics, but in the end it wasn't meant to be.

The Texas Rangers right-hander took a perfect game into the eighth inning against Oakland, but lost the bid after a two-out walk to Yonder Alonso.

After getting through the eighth without allowing a hit, Max Muncy lined a ball into deep right field, which Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara juggled before eventually dropping on the ground, ending Lewis' chance of a no-hitter in the process.

The 34-year-old Lewis then ended up losing his chance at a shutout after Coco Crisp recorded the second double of the inning, scoring Muncy.

It was the second time Lewis has taken a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Athletics, also doing so this past Sept. 11.

Lewis recovered from the lost opportunity to move to a perfect 6-0 and drop his ERA to 2.81 with the complete-game gem.
