Thursday's Shortstop Value Rankings
Here are theScore's shortstop value rankings for Thursday, June 9 (all stats from Wednesday's games are excluded):
Value Rankings

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Francisco Lindor (CLE) | at SEA | 9 |
Carlos Correa (HOU) | at TEX | 9 |
Jonathan Villar (MIL) | vs. NYM | 8 |
Manny Machado (BAL) | at TOR | 8 |
With few quality bargain options on the slate, the best plan of attack is to pay up for elite talent at shortstop. Lindor offers slight salary relief because of his minor struggles. He could easily rebound against middling righty Nathan Karns. Correa and Villar are hitting in favorable parks and have excellent power/speed athleticism. Machado has hit .327 at Rogers Centre in his career.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jhonny Peralta (STL) | at CIN | 7 |
Jimmy Rollins (CWS) | vs. WAS | 6 |
Trevor Story (COL) | vs. PIT | 5 |
Elvis Andrus (TEX) | vs. HOU | 5 |
Ketel Marte (SEA) | vs. CLE | 5 |
Darwin Barney (TOR) | vs. BAL | 5 |
Danny Espinosa (WAS) | CWS | 5 |
Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM) | at MIL | 4 |
Eduardo Nunez (MIN) | vs. MIA | 4 |
Gregorio Petit (LAA) | at NYY | 4 |
Peralta, a right-handed batter, has done damage against lefties throughout his career, but with just two games under his belt in 2016, DFS owners would be wise to exercise patience with the three-time All-Star. He can still be deployed liberally in tournaments, but he needs more time to prove his cash-game consistency.
Nunez's price has skyrocketed as the dynamic infielder has five homers and four steals in his last 10 games. Still, there are signs that he could disappoint on Thursday: he has only walked once over that 10-game span and those long balls accounted for all five of his RBIs. Nunez won't get much help from the Twins' flaccid lineup, so if he can't do it all on his own, he'll be a bust.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Zack Cozart (CIN) | vs. STL | 3 |
Adeiny Hechavarria (MIA) | at MIN | 2 |
Jordy Mercer (PIT) | at COL | 2 |
Didi Gregorius (NYY) | vs. LAA | 1 |
Cozart's price is inflated because of his recent power surge -- three homers and two doubles in his last 10 games. Even though he'll face Adam Wainwright, who has been shaky to say the least, the righty-on-righty matchup hasn't been favorable to Cozart in the past. Your budget is better spent elsewhere.
