Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Thursday, June 9 (all stats from Wednesday's games are excluded):
Value Rankings

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jason Kipnis (CLE) | at SEA | 10 |
Jose Altuve (HOU) | at TEX | 9 |
Robinson Cano (SEA) | vs. CLE | 9 |
Jurickson Profar (TEX) | vs. HOU | 8 |
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | at CWS | 8 |
Neil Walker (NYM) | at MIL | 8 |
DJ LeMahieu (COL) | vs. PIT | 8 |
Kipnis has seen his price tag drop precipitously from the top-10 at the keystone position, but there's isn't an obvious area where he has fallen short of late. He has hit or walked in all but two of his past 10 starts while striking out just five times. With an .811 OPS against righties since 2013, Kipnis has the potential to well-exceed expectations. He's a good fit for tournament formats.
LeMahieu gets his usual pricing adjustment for playing at Coors Field, which makes sense: while the second baseman has hit two homers, a triple and three doubles on the road, he has 13 extra-base hits at home -- and in five fewer games. He's a safer, albeit pricier, option than Kipnis.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Josh Harrison (PIT) | at COL | 7 |
Derek Dietrich (MIA) | at MIN | 7 |
Scooter Gennett (MIL) | vs. NYM | 6 |
Brett Lawrie (CWS) | vs. WAS | 6 |
Brandon Phillips (CIN) | vs. STL | 5 |
Brian Dozier (MIN) | vs. MIA | 5 |
Jedd Gyorko (STL) | at CIN | 4 |
Jonathan Schoop (BAL) | at TOR | 4 |
Harrison enjoys the same heightened expectations as his Rockies counterpart LeMahieu but without having the splits on his side. While LeMahieu gets the righty-on-lefty matchup, Harrison (a right-handed batter) will put his career .319 OBP against righties up against middling-but-right-handed Colorado pitcher Chad Bettis.
Dozier has rebounded after an abysmal start to hit .256 with a .849 OPS over his past 10 games, but many of those starts came against lefties, who the right-handed Dozier has historically fared well against. Temper expectations with the Marlins sending righty Tom Koehler to the mound.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Rougned Odor (TEX) | vs. HOU | 3 |
Devon Travis (TOR) | vs. BAL | 3 |
Starlin Castro (NYY) | vs. LAA | 3 |
Johnny Giavotella (LAA) | at NYY | 2 |
Odor has a ways to go before earning his spot among the top options at his position. While he has a homer and a steal in his last 10 games -- six starts prior to his week-long suspension -- he has only managed a .233 OBP over that span.
