Daily Fantasy Dose: No Holiday for Holland against Napoli and the Indians
Aaron Doster / USA TODAY Sports
Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Monday, May 30:
Stacks of the Day
Early Slate
- Milwaukee Brewers (vs. Cardinals): The Brewers offense is slashing a solid .263/.348/.440 at home this season, while also blasting 34 home runs inside Miller Park. A matchup against the struggling Carlos Martinez provides a great opportunity to solidify those numbers. Milwaukee offers a handful of players who won't cost a whole lot.
3-player stack: Jonathan Villar, Jonathan Lucroy, Chris Carter
5-player stack: Villar, Scooter Gennett, Lucroy, Carter, Kirk Nieuwenhuis
- Cleveland Indians (vs. Rangers): Targeting Derek Holland is a sound strategy as the lefty has posted a 6.41 ERA in road starts this year. The Cleveland offense is also wrapping a successful May in which it totaled 142 runs in 27 games. Francisco Lindor will be the most expensive of the bunch as an elite SS option.
3-player stack: Mike Napoli, Lindor, Rajai Davis
5-player stack: Napoli, Lindor, Davis, Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez
Late Slate
- Miami Marlins (vs. Pirates): The Marlins own a healthy .291 average against lefties this year, and Pittsburgh LHP Jeff Locke has surrendered six or more hits in his last three starts. A 5.08 ERA doesn't look good for the Pirates starter, either. Giancarlo Stanton is hopeful to play Monday while Derek Dietrich's availability seems unlikely.
3-player stack: Martin Prado, Adeiny Hechavarria, Stanton
5-player stack: Prado, Hechavarria, Staton, Marcell Ozuna, Christian Yelich
- Kansas City Royals (vs. Rays): The Royals have been rolling over the past seven days, hitting .336 with 85 hits and 44 runs scored over that span. Tampa Bay SP Matt Andriese has returned to earth after two strong starts, having given up 13 hits in previous two outings.
3-player stack: Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar
5-player stack: Hosmer, Cain, Escobar, Whit Merrifield, Paulo Orlando

Bargain Plays
Early Slate
- SP Edwin Escobar, Diamondbacks (vs. Astros): Escobar is the cheapest pitcher on the slate as he makes his first career start. Going against the undisciplined Astros provides strikeout upside, and Houston's .215 average against lefties makes him even more appealing.
- 2B/SS Jurickson Profar, Rangers (at Indians): Profar has gone 5-13 with three runs scored in just three games since being called up. Batting leadoff in Texas' strong offense puts him in a great position to cross home plate, and he has evidently capitalized on that opportunity.
Late Slate
- 2B/OF Whit Merrifield, Royals (vs. Rays): Merrifield has started six straight games as the Royals deal with injuries and poor offensive performance from other members of their infield. Merrifield has acquitted himself well, picking up a hit and a run in six straight outings.
- 1B Tommy Joseph, Phillies (vs. Nationals): Rostering a Philly is a hard sell - but with only five games on the late slate, options are limited. Joseph, a 24 year-old rookie, has performed surprisingly well in his limited at-bats this season, slashing .286/.289/.571. He has also picked up hits in five straight games while adding four RBIs in that stretch.

Contrarian Options
Early Slate
- SP Alex Wood, Dodgers (at Cubs): Wood will likely reduced ownership going against the Chicago offense. A recent tricep issue may further suppress ownership. But negatives aside, Wood has been spectacular in his last five starts with K:BB ratio of 43:5 and 2.67 ERA. The Dodgers have also won six of their seven games.
- 1B Mike Napoli, Indians (vs. Rangers): Napoli falls behind numerous other first baseman even on a limited slate; a .233 average and 36.3 percent K rate will also cause some to fade him. However, Cleveland's free swinging first baseman has hit homers in two of his last three and has 10 overall this season. Use him in tournaments against Holland.
Late Slate
- C Russell Martin, Blue Jays (vs. Yankees): Martin has been a disappointment this year with a .191 average. In his last five games, however, Martin has knocked three homers while collecting six total hits. New York SP Ivan Nova has given up five homers in just 37 innings, including one to Martin back on May 25.
- OF Jayson Werth, Nationals (at Phillies): Werth was good for a pinch-hit grand slam on Sunday and could go yard again Monday. Philadelphia SP Jeremy Hellickson has given up nine homers in 56 innings of work this year and posted a HR/FB ratio of 13.3 percent last season. Werth also comes at a relatively cheap price.
