Report: Grizzlies to interview Blazers assistant Tibbetts for coaching job
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to target assistant coaches in their hunt for a new bench boss.
The Grizzlies - who are reportedly also vetting Hornets assistant Patrick Ewing, Heat assistant David Fizdale, and Spurs assistant Ettore Messina - have been granted permission to interview Portland Trail Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts, and will do so early next week, Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reports.
Tibbetts joined the Blazers staff before the 2013-14 season after serving as an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before that, he served as the head coach of the D-league's Tulsa 66ers and Sioux Falls Skyforce, and coached Team USA to a bronze medal in the 2011 Pan American Games.
In April, ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz cited Tibbets as a potential head-coach-in-waiting, reporting that his "combo of player development chops, time as a head coach, positive energy, and communications skills is starting to reach front offices around the league."
