The Memphis Grizzlies interviewed Charlotte Hornets assistant Patrick Ewing on Thursday for their head coaching vacancy, CBS Sports' Ken Berger reports, citing league sources.

Ewing has served as an assistant for the past 12 seasons, spending time with the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic in addition to the Hornets. The former New York Knicks great has earned respect across the league since joining Steve Clifford's staff in 2013, making him a legitimate candidate as a head coach, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Ewing joins a long list of names the Grizzlies are expected to pursue. Ex-Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek, Miami Heat assistant David Fizdale, Portland Trail Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts, and San Antonio Spurs assistant Ettore Messina are all reportedly under consideration.

Ewing interviewed with the Sacramento Kings earlier in May before the position ultimately went to Dave Joerger. Ewing was also recently linked to the Orlando Magic following Scott Skiles' sudden resignation.
