The Boston Red Sox are monitoring Pablo Sandoval's progress during his stint on the disabled list with a shoulder injury and they reportedly like what they're seeing out of the "Kung Fu Panda."

Boston is encouraged by Sandoval's approach and results over the last two weeks while he conditions himself to return to big-league action, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.

Sandoval, who was given a conditioning program while he recovers from a left shoulder strain, hit the disabled list April 13 amidst a horrible start to his season, which includes zero hits and the loss of his starting job to Travis Shaw.

Sandoval is also scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews for a full examination on his shoulder Tuesday, Bradford reports, for an appointment that was cancelled earlier this month due to discomfort in the area.

Bradford also cites a source who refutes a report that said the Red Sox told the 255-pound Sandoval it had no intention of playing him unless he lost weight.

Since signing with Boston, Sandoval hasn't lived up to the expectations that came with his five-year, $90-million contract, slashing .242/.290/.361 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.
