Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis says he and his teammates draw inspiration from Leicester City's fairy tale Premier League campaign as they prepare to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.

Leicester City is now only one win away from ending its 2015-16 Premier League season in glorious triumph and Filipe Luis says his teammates are hoping for a similar underdog story for themselves to celebrate in the Champions League.

"Look at what is happening this year with Leicester, they are a modest team and are almost champions in the Premier League," Luis said, according to Sky Sports. "Epic things happen in football. Although there's a difference in our budgets we are the team that plays most as a team."

Atletico Madrid enjoyed something of a dream victory of their own in 2013-14, winning La Liga and breaking up the two-horse race between Real Madrid and Barcelona for the first time since 2003-04 when Valencia finished on top.

While Atletico is by no means a small club newly promoted to the top flight like Leicester City, Luis says the two teams share similar attributes regardless.

"We don't have a megastar, we have a team where everyone runs, everyone fights for the player next to them, and that makes us stronger," Luis explained. "The team thinks a lot collectively, nobody thinks individually, that's the most positive things that we have. We've had a lot of bad and good moments in the season and now we are stable, we have players who are getting better and better."
