Alabama's Alphonse Taylor had no alcohol in his system during DUI arrest

Alabama lineman Alphonse Taylor was arrested last week for driving under the influence after he called police to report he struck a car in a parking lot.

Taylor said he had not been drinking but was arrested and took two breath samples, according to documents provided by the Tuscaloosa Office of the City Attorney to The Tuscaloosa News.

"I immediately noticed that Taylor's speech was very slow and he appeared lethargic," the responding officer wrote in the arrest report. "Taylor advised that he had not been drinking, he did not take medication and had no medical problems." He added, "While I was speaking with him, I observed him drop his phone on the ground between his feet," the officer wrote. "Taylor struggled and swayed to retrieve his phone."

Taylor was sitting in his car when police arrived, he told the officers that he hit his head on the steering wheel and was fatigued after a night of playing cards. The breath tests stated that Taylor's blood alcohol level was 0.0.

Taylor's defense attorney, Jason Neff, also commented on the matter.

"Anytime you have a .00 blood-alcohol and there's not a long time period between the arrest and the time of the test, it raises an eyebrow," said Neff.

Alabama suspended Taylor following the arrest. He is set to appear in court on Aug. 16.
