Alabama suspends Alphonse Taylor indefinitely after DUI arrest

Marvin Gentry / USA TODAY Sports

Nick Saban announced Monday that Alabama has suspended Alphonse Taylor indefinitely after a DUI arrest this weekend.

"We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior," Saban said in a statement. "We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team."

The 6-foot-5, 325-pound guard was a key member of the Crimson Tide's dominant offensive line during their 2015 national championship run.

The decision to suspend Taylor comes just days after Saban decided against further discipline on Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones. The pair were arrested on drug and weapons charges in May, but had the case dropped by the district attorney's office due to lack of evidence.

Alabama opens the season Sept. 3 against USC.
