Report: Trade interest building for Kings' Gay, Belinelli

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

With the trade deadline less than three weeks away, several teams are reportedly calling up the Sacramento Kings with an eye on their wings.

Teams have inquired about the availability of forward Rudy Gay and shooting guard Marco Belinelli in the recent weeks, reports CSN Bay Area's James Ham.

The Kings rebuked an offer of Eric Gordon and Alonzo Gee for Gay earlier in January, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gay is the Kings' second leading scorer (18 per game), and with the Kings in playoff contention for the first time in nearly a decade, general manager Vlade Divac isn't ready to surrender Gay for mere salary relief, ESPN's Marc Stein notes.

In order for the Kings to move Gay, they're looking for a quality young player, and they're not looking for any rentals, Stein adds.

Gay, a 29-year-old swingman capable of playing both small and power forward, signed a three-year extension in 2014 that sees him earn an average of $13 million until 2018.

Belinelli, on the other hand, is suffering through a down year in which he's posting career-lows in field-goal percentage (38.4) and 3-point percentage (31.1), and as such, Ham reports that the proposals for Belinelli have been "less than flattering."

The Italian-born Belinelli joined the Kings on a three-year, $19-million deal last summer. The reasonable price tag, coupled with Belinelli's strong reputation as an accurate marksman, should hold appeal to several contenders around the league.

The Kings, however, are in dire need for 3-point shooting, and starter Ben McLemore has not yet proven to be reliable enough to warrant consistent minutes.

Through 46 games played, the Kings are tied for ninth and only a game back of the Portland Trail Blazers for eighth in the West.
