Drummond reiterates intent to remain with Pistons

Andre Drummond is putting up some flat-out gaudy numbers for the Detroit Pistons so far this season, and says that Motown is where his heart lies.

"I love it here," the center told Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears. "I plan on being here."

There isn't a lot of doubt around that sentiment, even after Drummond chose not to sign a max extension with the Pistons last month. Instead, deferring a new deal until next summer helps his team by saving the franchise about $13 million in cap space. While he will reach restricted free agency, the Pistons will use their Bird Rights anyway - the same tactic Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs employed this past summer.

Drummond has posted a double-double in every contest this season through Friday, and recorded three 20-point, 20-rebound performances in the first six games of the season.

The only other players in NBA history to do that? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain.

"It's just a will," Drummond said. "To get the ball most people won't jump for. I just put myself out there knowing it gives my team the opportunity to either score offensively or even get a chance to start the break."

The Westchester County, N.Y. native is also an IT guy of sorts, telling Spears he likes to fix computers in his spare time.

"I know a lot about parts and stuff like that. If something was to mess up in a computer, tech kind of stuff, like the motorized stuff, I know a lot about the software stuff," he said. "I learned from trial and error. It started off with my computer at home. It used to freeze a lot. I used to find out why and I would fix it."

That wasn't lost on former Pistons president Joe Dumars, who drafted Drummond out of UConn at No. 9 in 2012.

"His ability to fix computers spoke to how he had the mind to analyze things and figure them out quickly," Dumars said.
