Bulls' Hoiberg: Rose to return to practice in just over 1 week

He may be face-masked and a little worse for wear, but Derrick Rose is expected to be back on the Chicago Bulls practice court in just over a week's time, according to head coach Fred Hoiberg.

Hoiberg said Rose - who underwent surgery for a fractured orbital bone Wednesday after taking an elbow to the face during practice - will be at practice as a spectator on Oct. 12, when the Bulls return home from a two-game preseason road trip, and "just a couple days after that be ready to get back on the floor."

Before they depart for that trip, the Bulls' rookie coach plans to travel to Rose's house to bring him his homework. Hoiberg says he'll have Rose analyze film, and will catch him up on what he's missed in the last few days of practice.

This effectively puts him on the projected timeline the Bulls laid out after the injury, and keeps him on track to slot into the team's opening-night lineup.
