VIDEO: Rudy Gobert's emphatic alley-oop punctuates France's quarterfinal victory
Rudy Gobert is putting Europe on alert: the French are looking to repeat as champions of EuroBasket.
The 23-year-old center played a central role in propelling the French over Team Latvia by a score of 84-70 on Tuesday. The Utah Jazz pivot poured in 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, and, more importantly, made a mockery of Latvian forward Martins Meiers.
Gobert also made short work of Latvian center Kaspars Berzins moments earlier, as he easily gobbled Berzins' weak attempt at a layup.
Through seven games in the tournament, Gobert is averaging 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per 36 minutes played, while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
Tuesday's victory for France sets up a semifinals clash with Spain, which was narrowly edged by Greece in the quarterfinals.
France and Spain have a long history of bad blood, and the two sides faced off at the exact same junction during EuroBasket 2013. In that game, France emerged victorious with a thrilling 75-72 win in overtime before going on to defeat Lithuania in the championship game.
