Chris Copeland 'OK' after April stabbing, says Jason Kidd 'the biggest hook' in him joining Bucks
Fresh off of his signing with the upstart Milwaukee Bucks, Chris Copeland has broken his silence for the first time since being stabbed outside a New York club in April.
"I would like to say that I am OK for anybody that was concerned," Copeland told Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears.
"Legally, it's not something I can talk about," Copeland added about the April incident, which led to season-ending elbow and abdomen surgeries. "It was an unfortunate situation. I'm looking forward to putting it behind me and getting back on the floor."
Copeland, who endured a disappointing 2014-15 season that saw his shooting numbers plummet, will join a Bucks team that also added star big man Greg Monroe following a surprising 41-win season.
Copeland signed a reported one-year deal with the Bucks worth more than $1.1 million.
"The biggest hook for me was Jason Kidd, by far," Copeland told Spears of the Bucks head coach, who was his Knicks teammate just a couple of years ago. "Obviously, he was a friend of mine before all this. He was a great mentor for me in New York and someone I continue to grow under.
"An incredible mind on and off the floor."
Copeland has never been a strong defender, but on a Bucks team overflowing with length and defensive ability, Kidd would likely be thrilled if the combo-forward simply regained the shooting prowess he had established over his first two seasons in the Association, when he knocked down 42 percent of his 3-point attempts.
The 31-year-old has been taking part in an externship with Facebook.
