Wizards' Wittman: 'I don't give a crap what Speights thinks'

The Washington Wizards are toiling through what has been an up-and-down season. After starting off 27-12, the Wizards have hit a rough patch and are just 13-20 since.

To make matters worse, the Wizards have also developed a habit for collapsing in the fourth quarter. They rank as the league's sixth-worst team in clutch scenarios by net rating and have been outscored by an average of 1.3 points in the fourth, which is the second-worst mark in the league.

Golden State Warriors backup big Marreesse Speights called out the Wizards for their tendency to fold. Following the Wizards' 107-76 loss to the Warriors on Monday, Speights rubbed some salt in the wound.

"We knew if we hit them, if we got a couple stops they would start arguing with each other and quit," Speights told reporters.

Speights' words got back to Wizards head coach Randy Wittman, who brushed off the comment.

"I don't give a crap what Speights thinks," Wittman told reporters. "We played them twice. What's he know."

"That's his opinion. We have to worry about ourselves," Wittman said. "There is no splintering going on here. This is a frustrating game when you go 1 for 18 (in a quarter), trust me. That's part of this game."

But Wittman also added credence to Speights's gesture when asked if Speights's comments would become bulletin board material.

"That's not what you rely on at this point, having somebody from another team say something like that. That should fall on our shoulders. We have to come out and play a total game. I don't need Speights to tell me that."
