Speights on Wizards: If we hit them ... they would quit

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

To put it bluntly, the Washington Wizards have been up and down like a toilet seat during stretches this season. On Monday night, they were destroyed 107-76 by the best team in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors.

For a Wiz fan, there's no real reason for deep panic based on that beatdown alone, but there might be about what Warriors reserve big man Marreese Speights said afterwards.

"We just turned up a little," Speights told reporters of the Warriors in the third quarter, a period in which the Wizards were manhandled and outscored 29-8.

"We knew if we hit them, if we got a couple stops they would start arguing with each other and quit. We went out there with a good mindset in the second half and we did it."

Going into the postseason, the last thing a team wants is a perception out there that it can be intimidated and broken. This is however a squad that upset the Chicago Bulls in last year's playoffs and they've since added a wily veteran in Paul Pierce.

Beyond the Wizards, this is noteworthy thinking about how scary the Warriors could be at home during the postseason.
