Report: Raptors sign Jordan Hamilton

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

With the recent signing of point guard Will Cherry and second round pick DeAndre Daniels heading to Australia, the Toronto Raptors roster stood at 15, seemingly set for the 2014-15 season.

That changed on Thursday.

Between Cherry and Hamilton, you would have to think that one, if not both, have agreed to non-guaranteed deals, since the Raptors will have to trim one of their now 16 players before the start of the regular season.

Hamilton averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds on just 39 percent shooting in 60 games with the Nuggets and Rockets last season, but he did shoot 35 percent from deep on a career-high 3.3 three-point attempts per game (198 total attempts) and has shot 35.8 percent from behind the arc in his three-year career.

Hamilton was selected 26th overall by the Mavericks in the 2011 NBA Draft and spent the first two-and-a-half seasons of his career in Denver before being traded to Houston in exchange for Aaron Brooks at the 2014 trade deadline. The 23-year-old has also spent time with the Idaho Stampede of the D-League.

Hamilton's role in Toronto, should he even stick with the Raptors by the time the season rolls around, would likely be to simply provide depth at small forward, where Terrence Ross is expected to start, James Johnson is expected to play, and Landry Fields can fill in.
